The Classic of Mountains and Seas (Shanhaijing) records that in Chai Mountain there is a fish called kanxu, which is shaped like a Kuafu but possesses the tail of a pig. Another tradition suggests that this term refers to fish eggs. It is often incorrectly written in folk usage as the variant form (yu).
