Pronounced wan. To break or frustrate.
Records of the Grand Historian (Shiji): The people were exhausted and frustrated by ingenious laws.
Commentary: Wan is a term for consumption or depletion.
Commentary on the History of the Former Han (Qian Hanshu): Wan implies erroneous damage, referring to breaking or suffering injury. Note that the error is synonymous with being worn away.
Also, according to the Collection of Rhymes (Jiyun), it is synonymous with round or circular, meaning to pare down.
It is also used interchangeably with the character pronounced wan (meaning to whittle).

Commentary: Wan refers to massaging and stroking the body to restore balance. Modern editions often mistakenly write this as the character for boat.
It is also synonymous with the character for indulgence or to be weary of something through habit.
