Pronounced meng (rising tone). According to the Extensive Rhymes (Guangyun) and Collection of Rhymes (Jiyun), the pronunciation is the same as that of the character it refers to. According to the Essentials of the Six Writings (Liushu lue), it means bright. Another interpretation states it refers to the clarity and brightness of the heavens, earth, and the four cardinal directions. Also, according to the Collection of Rhymes (Jiyun), it is pronounced gu (rising tone) meng (rising tone), with the same pronunciation as the character kuang. The meaning is the same. Furthermore, according to the Supplement to the Dictionary (Zihuibu), it is the name of a bridge located in Kunshan County, Suzhou. At the end of the Yuan dynasty, Fang Guozhen hurried to Mengzi Bridge to engage in battle with Zhang Shicheng. Also, according to the Record of the Three Venerables (Sanzun pulu), it is the dharma name of the primordial emperor.
