In the Categorized Dictionary (Leipian), it is defined as foot clothing. In the Explanation of Names (Shimingshi), it is stated: a stocking is the extremity, as it is situated at the extremity of the foot. In the Outer Biography of Flying Swallow (Feiyan waizhuan), it mentions wearing an old, short embroidered skirt, small-sleeved garment, and patterned stockings. In Cao Zhi's Rhapsody on the Goddess of the Luo River (Luo shen fu), it is written: She treads upon the waves with delicate steps, and her silk stockings raise dust.
