Guangyun (Guangyun), Jiyun (Jiyun), Zheng Yun (Zheng Yun): Pronounced zong.
Shuowen Jiezi (Shuowen): Tong means to record.
Shiming (Shiming): Tong means a thread or beginning. It refers to the one who leads the thread of human generations, where categories follow one another like a continuous thread.
Book of Documents (Shujing): To continue the rule of former kings and regulate their rituals and offerings.
Commentary: To connect with the three sequences of rule of the current king.
Subcommentary: Heaven has three sequences of rule, and the earth has three kings. These three kings are the means by which the world is unified.
Gongyang Zhuan (Gongyang Zhuan): Great unification.
