Shuowen Jiezi states: A small boat. Explanation of Names (Shiming) states: A boat of two hundred hu capacity or more is called a ting. Expanded Rhymes (Zengyun) states: A boat that is small and long. Yangzi Dialects (Fangyan) states: A small ship is called a ting. Huainanzi, Treatise on Truth (Chuzhen Xun) states: A Shu ting is a boat made of a single plank, similar to those from Yuzhang today.
