Explanation of Names (Shiming): To be greedy means to seek out. It is the act of seeking what does not originally belong to oneself.
Book of Odes (Shijing), Greater Odes (Daya): Those who are greedy for wealth corrupt the good.
Book of Rites (Liji), Evolution of Rites (Liyun): When employing people for their benevolence and virtue, one must eliminate their greed.
Qu Yuan, Encountering Sorrow (Lisao): Everyone rushes to scheme, greedy and never satisfied.
Wang Yi commentary: To love wealth is called tan; to love food is called lan.
