In the Explanation of Characters (Shuowen Jiezi), it means to speak rapidly.
In Xi Kang’s Rhapsody on the Zither (Qinfu), it is written as follows: The sounds are many and flowing.
It is also pronounced zhe. The compound word se-zhe refers to speech that does not cease.
In Zuo Si’s Rhapsody on the Capital of Wu (Wudu Fu), it describes a scene of noisy, competing trade. The commentary notes that se-zhe refers to a clamor of many voices.
According to the Correct Character Guide (Zhengzitong), it is the same as the characters ta and ta.
According to the Supplement to the Collection of Characters (Zihuibu), it is also written in a variant form.
