Shuowen Jiezi (Shuowen) says it refers to a type of woolen mat.
History of the Later Han (Hou Hanshu), Account of the Western Regions: In the Kingdom of Tianzhu, there is fine cloth and fine woolen mats. The commentary in the Pi Cang says: It is a hair mat.
Explanation of Names (Shiming): It is spread upon a small couch in front of a large bed, used for stepping up onto the bed.
Ban Gu, Letter to Younger Brother Chao: The woolen mats from the Yuezhi, both large and small, are mixed together, but they are simply fine and good.
Correction of Characters (Zhengzitong): In Central Tianzhu, there is this woolen mat; today it is called pudu. It is found on the borders of Qin and Shu, resembling felt, with multicolored square brocade patterns. Those coming from overseas ships in the south also reach us. It is also called duoluorong. Sometimes written in a variant form, which is incorrect.
