Yin Collection, Middle Volume Radical: Mountain (shān) Character: Duo Kangxi Strokes: 15 Page 320, Entry 06 Pronounced duo (falling tone). In the Shuowen Jiezi (Shuowen), it refers to the appearance of a continuous mountain range descending downwards. In the Erya (Erya), it is recorded as luan mountain duo. The commentary notes that in the Jingzhou region, this is referred to as luan. In the Book of Odes (Shijing), it states duo mountain and high peaks. The commentary defines this as a mountain shape that is narrow and long. Also pronounced tuo. The meaning is the same. Textual Research: The Shuowen Jiezi entry originally defined it as a small and sharp mountain; this has now been corrected according to the original text to read as the drooping or descending appearance of a mountain.
