As defined in the Analytical Dictionary of Characters (Shuowen Jiezi), the appearance of being bald. It is also a variant form of tui (decay). It denotes a violent wind. In the Book of Odes (Shijing), it is written: The wind and the gust. The commentary by Sun Yan states: A whirling wind moving from above to below is called tui. It also refers to decadence and decline. In the Biography of Zhao Zi in the History of the Later Han (Hou Hanshu), it is written: By the time of the Warring States period, it had gradually reached a state of decline and stagnation.
