Chou Collection, Middle Volume Radical: Earth (tǔ) Page 234, Entry 10 Pronounced tuo. A flying brick, used in a game. During the Song dynasty, there was a game involving flying bricks during the Cold Food Festival (Hanshi jie). Mei Yaochen, Prohibition of Smoke Poem: With graceful steps they sing and hold sleeves, lightly gambling on victory as each tosses the flying brick. Note: The character tuo was not included in the upper tone category in various rhyme books. The Compendium of Characters (Zihui) and the Comprehensive Meaning of Characters (Zhengzitong) both write it as tuo in the upper tone, treating the level tone as a rhyming variant, which is incorrect. It is also written in a variant form. Another variant form is also used.
