According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen), it means to pull or draw in. Also, according to the Extensive Rhyme (Guangyun), it means to pull or extract.
In the Book of Odes (Shijing), Xiaoya section, in the commentary on the Cheng Shi Nan Ji, it is written: Once the firewood is finished at dawn, they pull the thatch from the roof to continue the fire.
In the Commentary on the Classics (Shiwen), it is noted that suo is also written as a variant form. According to the Sub-commentary (Shu), when the firewood is exhausted, they pull out the roof thatch to continue the fire. The original character was written as a variant.
