Zi Collection, Middle Volume. Radical: Person (rén). Suō. Kangxi Stroke Count: 12. Page 113, Number 28. Tang Dynasty Rhymes (Tangyun) gives the pronunciation as a combination of the sounds sù and hé. Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), Rhyme Meetings (Yunhui), and Standard Rhymes (Zhengyun) all give the pronunciation as a combination of sāng and hé, pronounced the same as suō. Explaining Writing and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen Jiezi) defines this as the appearance of dancing while intoxicated. The Book of Odes (Shijing) in the Minor Odes (Xiaoya) section describes dancing repeatedly in a drunken stagger.
