In the Rites of Zhou (Zhouli), Office of Earth, Superintendent of Markets, it is stated: By using the government treasury to collect goods and extend credit. The commentary explains: When one lacks money, it means to buy on credit and borrow first.
Also, according to the Classified Chapters (Leipian), it means distant. In Wang Bo's Eulogy on Taigong Meeting King Wen, it is written: Although the city gates and watchtowers are near, the winds and clouds are still distant.
According to the Sea of Graphs (Pianhai), it is used to describe someone who is slow or sluggish.
It is also interchangeable with extravagant. In the Biography of Zhongchang Tong from the History of the Later Han (Houhan Shu), it is written: Exquisite clothing serves as a warning against extravagance. The commentary notes that it is the same as the character for extravagant.
It also rhymes with ge. In Xie Lingyun's Rhymeprose on Sensing the Times (Ganshi Fu), it is written: Observing the myriad things until they reach me, I grieve that crossing arms is not far off. Considering that the elderly may quickly pass, I point to Mount Yanzi in the far west.
