Kangxi Dictionary

Zi Collection, Upper Volume, Page 1350, Entry 07 Pronounced shi (entering tone) 《说文解字》(Shuowen Jiezi) defines it as one hundred and twenty jin. One du (䄷) of rice is equivalent to twenty sheng of millet, and one du (䄷) of grain or millet is equivalent to sixteen sheng of millet. It is sometimes written as "shi" (石). In the line "Heavy burdens, what use are stones?" (重任石之何益) from the "Nine Chapters" (Jiu Zhang) in the "Songs of Chu" (Chu Ci), the commentary notes that some editions write "du" (䄷) as "shi" (石).
