Chen Collection, Lower Volume Radical: Fur (máo) Kangxi stroke count: 10 Page 592, Entry 35 Pronounced sai. Peisai, the appearance of bird feathers spreading out. Sometimes written as a variant form (sai) using the radical for thought. In the Poem of the Owl (Chi Shi) by Liu Yuxi: With feathers spread wide, the bird with a full belly squats on a withered branch. Commonly written as the character pronounced sai. In the Rhapsody on Shooting Pheasants (Shezhi Fu) by Pan Yue: Spreading its patterned wings in a flared, bristling manner. Commentary notes: Flared and bristling describes an angry appearance. Note that when a bird is angry, its feathers spread out; this has the same meaning as peisai.
