Commentary: The screech owl is a bird with a harsh voice. It eats mulberry fruits and changes its cry.
Note: The character zhen is equivalent to ren.
Book of Jin (Jinshu), Biography of Zhang Xi: Mulberry fruits are sweet and tasty, the screech owl changes its sound.

Book of Odes (Shijing), Odes of Wei (Weifeng): Oh, you dove, do not eat the mulberry fruits. Rhymes with the lower character dan.
Book of Odes Commentary (Shishu): One edition also uses the character zhen. According to Peixi, using the character zhen (iron block) for mulberry fruit is incorrect, as the character for mulberry fruit should not be formed with the wood radical.
