Quyù (from the characters qiu and yu) is the pronunciation given in the Qieyun (Tang Yun), and qūyù (from the characters qu and yu) is the pronunciation given in Jiyun and Yunhui. The pronunciation is the same as qu. Shuowen Jiezi explains it as a mat used for silkworms. Yangzi's Fangyan records: This type of mat is called "qu" in the regions of Song, Wei, Chen, Chu, Jiang, and Huai, and the character "qu" is also used interchangeably. The Book of Rites (Liji), in its "Monthly Ordinances" (Yueling), records: In the third month of the third spring month, one must prepare silkworm-raising utensils such as qu, zhi, ju, and kuang. The commentary explains: Qu refers to a silkworm mat (a mat for raising silkworms). Furthermore, Yangzi's Fangyan records: Bamboo mats are called "sheng" in the regions between Song and Wei, or they are called "ju qu".
