According to the Jade Chapters (Yupian), it is a bowl made of bent wood.
According to the Broad Rhymes (Guangyun), it is a utensil resembling a sheng measure, made by bending wood.
As stated in the Mencius (Mengzi): Follow the nature of the willow to make cups and bowls.
Also pronounced yuan (level tone). It is the same as the character for a nose ring used to restrain an ox.
As stated in the Lu Spring and Autumn (Lushi Chunqiu), Weighting the Self chapter: A five-foot-tall child pulls on the nose ring, and the ox knows how to follow.
Also pronounced quan (level tone).
According to the Book of Han (Hanshu), Geography Treatise: Xiquan is the name of a county belonging to Rinan Commandery.
