Xu Collection, Middle Volume Radical: Mound (fù) Kangxi strokes: 15 Page: 1351, Entry 02 陗 Guangyun, Jiyun, Yunhui, and Zhengxun state it is pronounced qī xiào qiè, with a sound similar to qiào. Shuowen defines it as meaning jùn (high and precipitous). Yupian defines it as rugged and steep. Guangyun explains it as mountains high and steep. Also, Yupian defines it as concealed. Guangyun explains it as urgent. The Book of Han (Han Shu), Biography of Chao Cuo (Chao Cuo Zhuan) records: "His character was stern, upright, and harsh." A commentary notes that qiao is the same as the character qiào, meaning severe and harsh.
