Pronounced qiu (rising tone). Same as qiu. Describes the curved appearance of a horn. Book of Odes (Shijing), Lesser Odes of the Kingdom: The rhinoceros-horn drinking cup is curved. Also describes the strength and stiffness of a bow. Book of Odes (Shijing), Eulogies of Lu: The horn-inlaid bow is curved. The commentary says this describes a slack appearance. The supplementary note says this describes the curved appearance of a horn-inlaid bow, meaning the bowstring is pulled very tight. Also written in a variant form (jiu).
