Mao Collection, Lower Volume Radical: Branch (zhī) 攲 Kangxi Stroke Count: 12 Page 467, Entry 21 Pronounced qi. According to the Shuowen Jiezi (Shuowen), it means to hold and remove. The School Sayings of Confucius (Kongzi Jiayu) records that when Confucius visited the Zhou ancestral temple, he saw a leaning vessel. He asked Zilu to fetch water to test it; when full, it would overturn, when moderate, it would remain upright, and when empty, it would tilt. The commentary to the Youzuo chapter of the Xunzi states that a leaning vessel is a type of implement that easily tilts and overturns. Also pronounced ji. The meaning is the same. According to the Lei Bian, another interpretation is that it signifies something not level. Note that the character 攲 is different from the character 敧 under the Radical: Strike (pū).
