Shuowen Jiezi (Explanation of Simple and Compound Characters): A palace for archers of the feudal lords; it has water on the southwest and a wall on the northeast.
Book of Odes (Shijing), Odes of Lu: Joyful is the semicircular water.
Commentary (Jian): The word pan means half. A half-watered area means that the water flows south from the eastern and western gates, but not to the north.
Book of Rites (Liji), Royal Regulations: Built a semicircular palace.
Comprehensive Statutes (Tongdian): There is a Pan River in Sishui County, Yanzhou.
