According to the Collected Rimes (Jiyun) and the Dictionary of Rimes (Yunhui), it is pronounced píng. The sound is the same as the character for a crashing sound. It refers to the sound of water crashing against rocks. In the Rhapsody on the River (Jiangfu) by Guo Pu, there is the phrase, the cliffs crash and surge.
According to the Five Sounds Collected Rimes (Wuyin Jiyun), it is pronounced pìng, with the same tone as the falling tone of the character for lean or rely upon. The meaning is the same.
According to the Comprehensive Dictionary (Zhengzitong), in a poem by Han Yu, there is a line mentioning a crashing, thundering sound. The Dictionary of Rimes (Yunhui) combines the two characters into one term, but this is incorrect.
