Zi Collection, Page Position: Upper Radical: Jade (yù) Page 140, Entry 03 Pronounced pian (falling tone) — "Guangyun" Pronounced pian (falling tone) — "Jiyun" "Book of Odes (Shijing)" quotes "Erya" saying that leather cut in the middle is called bian, referring to the reins and bridle of a chariot or horse. "Guangyun" states it was also written as bian. Note: In the current "Erya - Shi Qi," it is written as bian. Furthermore, "Erya - Shi Mu" records that the bian of a mulberry tree refers to the gardenia tree. Annotation explains: bian means half.
