Pronounced pan (falling tone). The appearance of flowing water. Another interpretation refers to the water's edge. According to the Jade Chapter (Yupian), it is an ancient form of the character Pan. The meaning is the same as the character Pan in the Book of Odes (Shijing) phrase: In the low-lying fields, there is a bank. Ban carries the same meaning as Chun (water's edge).
