According to the Extensive Rhyme Dictionary (Guangyun) and Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), pronounced nong. According to the Standard Rhymes (Zhengyun), pronounced nong. In common usage, it refers to the self. In a poem by Han Yu: The crocodile is bigger than the boat, with teeth and eyes terrifying me. Also, it refers to others or a third person. There is a title in the Ancient Music Bureau (Gu yuefu) poems called Ao Nong Ge. According to the Explanation of the Six Writings (Liushu gu), the people of Wu call a person nong, which is a shift in the sound of the word person. People from Ou pronounce it like neng. It is also a surname. Song dynasty figure Nong Zhigao. It also refers to the Nong people, now a branch of the Hmong in Yunnan, who are the same as the Bo people and the Sha people.
