Pronounced nai ye qie according to Yùpiān (玉篇), and nuo ye qie according to Lèipiān (类篇). Pronounced the same as "niè" according to Hǎipiān (海篇). It is the name of a type of bamboo. The "Odes on the Capitals of Shu" (Shudufu) by Yang Xiong (扬雄) records the bamboos zhì lóng (籦笼) and cè (䇣). Zhèngzìtōng (正字通) states: Cè (䇣) is a type of bamboo with white skin like frost, and thick stalks suitable for making boat poles. Additionally, Piānhǎi (篇海) records: Cè (䇣) refers to a small box. It can also be written as wěi (鉩), jié (籋), or bèi (銸).
