(Shuowen): Sweet. From sheep and big. Sheep are among the six domestic animals, providing sustenance. Mei and shan have the same meaning.
(Note): When sheep are big, they are beautiful, hence from big.
(Wujing Wenzi): Those from dog and fire are erroneous.
(Book of Odes, Zhaonan, Gantang Preface): Praising Zhao Bo.
(Shu): Good is spoken as beautiful, bad is spoken as criticism.
Also (Guangyun): Beautiful color.
(Book of Odes, Beifeng): It is not for the woman that she is beautiful.
(Zhuan): Not only for her followers to speak of beautiful color.
Also (Zhengyun): Excellent, good.
Also (Yunbu): Rhymes with ming mi qie.
(Liu Xiang, Jiutan): Displaying essence to dazzle, fragrant and rich forming beauty. Binding the cassia tree's beauty, threading orchid,蕙, and magnolia. Yi has a different sound.
