Naming Meaning

Kangxi Dictionary

Pronounced mo jing (falling tone) in Guangyun, and mang jing (falling tone) in Jiyun and Yunhui, with the same pronunciation and meaning as "ming". The "ming" character refers to the area between the eyebrows and eyes. In the "Book of Odes" (Shijing) and "Erya" (Erya), it is borrowed to represent this meaning. Zhang Heng's "Xijing fu" (Xijing fu) writes it as "ming", with the same pronunciation and meaning. See also the commentary on the character "ming" in the Mouth radical.
