According to the Compilation of Rhymes (Jiyun) and the Collection of Rhymes (Yunhui), pronounced mi. It means to wear out. It refers to the spot on a bell where it is struck. In the Rites of Zhou (Zhouli), section Winter Officials, Artificers' Record (Kaogongji), chapter on the Bell-makers (Fushi), it is stated: The part above the lip of the bell is called the sui. The commentary states: The part above the lip of the bell is the curved edge. The mi is the spot where the bell is struck. It refers to being worn out, depressed, and shiny, resembling a tunnel.
Also, according to the Compilation of Rhymes (Jiyun), pronounced mo (falling tone). The meaning is the same.
Also, according to the Compilation of Rhymes (Jiyun), the Collection of Rhymes (Yunhui), and the Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun), pronounced mei. It is the same as the character mo. See the entry for the character mo.
