According to the Broad Rhymes (Guangyun), it means to pull out with the hand. It also means to rub or to seize by the hair. Also pronounced miè. As recorded in the Quick Reference Reader (Jijiu Pian): Bathing and cutting and pulling out sparse hairs together. The commentary by Shigū explains that the term refers to the shaving or pulling out of eyebrows and hair, referring to the removal of those parts that are uneven or untidy.
