According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen Jiezi), it refers to a fishing trap. According to the Broadly Elegant (Guangya), it is a net for catching rabbits and boars. In the Rhapsody on the Capital of Wu (Wudu Fu) by Zuo Si, it is written: snares and traps are connected like a net. The commentary states: a trap is a net for deer. Additionally, in the Rhyme Supplement (Yunbu), it is also pronounced mian. In the Seven Admonitions (Qi Ming) by Zhang Zai, it is written: spreading out flying nets, stretching out repaired traps.
