Shuowen Jiezi (Explanation of Simple and Compound Characters): The autumn sky.
Erya (Approaching Elegance): Autumn is called the Min sky.
Commentary: Min carries the sense of mǐn (to feel pity), as the autumn season brings the withering and falling of all things.
Sub-commentary: In autumn, all things have matured and possess patterns, hence it is called the Min sky.
Shiming (Explanation of Names): Min means mǐn (to feel pity). As things wither and fall, it is something to be pitied and grieved over.
Book of Documents (Shujing): Crying out daily to the Min sky and to one's parents.
Commentary: Because heaven is benevolent and covers those below with pity, it is called the Min sky.
Book of Odes (Shijing): The Min sky is swift and fierce.
Jiyun (Compendium of Rhymes): Sometimes written in a variant form (mǐn). Also used interchangeably as (mǐn).
