According to Guangyun, Jiyun, and Yunhui, pronounced méng. A county name. In Jiangxia Commandery there was Méng County — Book of Han (Hanshu), Treatise on Geography. "destroyed Junling, and blocked Méng'e." — Records of the Grand Historian (Shiji), Biography of Su Qin. Xu Guang said: Méng County in Jiangxia. Zhengyi said: Luoshan County in Shen Prefecture. Originally Han Méng County.
Also commonly written as 冥 (míng). "returning and blocking the Great Tunnel, Zhiyuan, and Míng'e." — Zuo Zhuan. These three were narrow passes east of the Han River. Tongya says: Míng'e is Méng'e.
