Pronounced mo (falling tone) according to "Tang Yun" and "Ji Yun," and mong (falling tone) according to "Yun Hui" and "Zheng Yun," same as the character "meng." "Shuowen Jiezi" writes it as "㝱," meaning to perceive something while asleep. The character's form is composed of "mián" and the phonetic component "mèng." The "Zhou Li - Chun Guan - Zhan Meng" records that by observing the sun, moon, and stars, one could divine the fortune or misfortune of six types of "㝱": the first is "zheng 㝱," the second is "hé 㝱," the third is "si 㝱," the fourth is "wu 㝱," the fifth is "xi 㝱," and the sixth is "ju 㝱." Later, the clerical script simplified it to "mèng." For a detailed explanation, please refer to the annotation of the character "mèng" in the "Radical: Evening (xī)" section.
