According to the Categorized Compilation (Leipian), it is the same as the character for a type of bird. In the Biography of Sima Xiangru from the History of the Former Han (Qianhan Shu), it mentions the flying lei (a type of flying mammal). Zhang Yi comments that the lei is a flying rodent, shaped like a rabbit but with the head of a mouse, and it flies.
