According to the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun) and the Rhyme Collection (Yunhui), the pronunciation is li (level tone). According to the Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun), the pronunciation is li (level tone). The pronunciation is the same as the word for separate (li). The Rhyme Collection (Yunhui) records that a jie-li is a type of white hat. It is also written in a variant form (chi). The Commentary to the Literary Expositor (Erya Zhu) mentions that a jie-chi is a term from the region east of the Yangtze River. It refers to the long feathers taken from the head, wings, and back of an egret, which are used to craft this item, known as an egret ornament (bailu xiang). Additionally, in the Biography of Shan Tao from the Book of Jin (Jinshu), it is written as jie-li. In the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), it is sometimes also written in a variant form (li).
