Spring and Autumn of Master Lu (Lushi Chunqiu): A courtier of Zhao named Yangcheng Quxu became ill. The doctor said, if you obtain the liver of a white mule, you will live; if not, you will die. Yangcheng Quxu killed his cherished white mule and removed the liver for the doctor.
Separate Biographies of Immortals (Shenxian Biezhuan): After Li Shaojun died, someone saw him in Puban, Hedong, riding a green mule. The emperor heard of this and opened the coffin, but it was empty.
