Kangxi Dictionary

Pronounced luo (falling tone), with fanqie of "lu" (入声) and "ge" (入声). In the "Jiyun" (集韵), it is pronounced li ge qie, with the same pronunciation as "luo" (落). The "Shuowen Jiezi" (说文解字) explains it as a sideways glance. The "Boy a" (博雅) explains it as to look. The "Yangzi Fangyan" (扬子·方言) records: In the regions of Wu, Yang, Jiang, and Huai, a sideways glance is called "li". Furthermore, in the regions of Wu and Yang, to look is also called "li". The region of Dong Qi also says this. Also, in the "Guangyun" (广韵), it is pronounced li zhuo qie, and in the "Jiyun" (集韵), it is pronounced li zhuo qie, with the same pronunciation as "lüe" (略). The meaning is the same.
