According to the Regional Languages (Fangyan) by Yang Xiong, the decorative trimming on the chest of a garment is called a zhi-ling, which refers to the upper garment worn by a woman when she is first married. Another source states it refers to a wrapped collar; in the region east of the Yangtze River, it is commonly used to refer to a lower garment. Furthermore, according to the Classified Chapters (Leipian), it is pronounced ding, and it is a variant form of the character for a collar.
