According to Broad Rhymes (Guangyun), Collection of Rhymes (Jiyun), and Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun), it is pronounced lin (falling tone). Broad Rhymes (Guangyun) states that the Linque is a type of bird. Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen) states that the lin resembles a myna bird but is yellow. It also means to trample. In the Biography of Sima Xiangru in the History of the Former Han (Qianhan shu), it is written: the tracks left by the carts. Guo Pu comments that lin means to trample. Also, according to Collection of Rhymes (Jiyun), it is pronounced lian (falling tone), with the same meaning.
