Zi Collection, Page Position: Lower Radical: Shelter (guǎng) Page 356, Entry 09 In the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen Jiezi), the character lin (granary) is the original form. The character structure consists of entering and returning, resembling a house. It contains doors and windows in the center, used to prevent stored grain from becoming damp or heating up. The Summary of the Six Writings (Liushu Lue) records: those that are square are called cang (storehouse), while those that are round are called lin (granary). The top part of the character resembles its lid.
