Zi Collection, Page Position: Upper, Radical: Ox (niú) Pronounced lü (falling tone) with the fanqie "lü Zhang qie" from the "Tang Yun" and "Ji Yun" dictionaries. Pronounced long Zhang qie from the "Zheng Yun" dictionary, with the same pronunciation as "liang." Explained in the "Shuowen Jiezi" as a mottled ox. The character's structure includes the radical "ox" (niú) and "jing" (jīng) for phonetic indication. The "Guang Yun" dictionary states that a mottled ox is an ox with impure coloring. The "Shuowen" quotes the "Chun Qiu Zhuan" as writing it as "mang liang." The current version of the "Zuo Zhuan" from the second year of Duke Min (Min Gong Er Nian) writes it as "mang liang," with a completely different pronunciation and meaning from what is presented here. It is unclear on what basis the "Shuowen" made this citation. Also, pronounced li rang qie from the "Guang Yun" and "Ji Yun" dictionaries. Pronounced li zhang qie from the "Zheng Yun" dictionary, with the same pronunciation as "liang." The meaning is the same. Page 245, Entry 05
