Classic of Poetry and Prose (Erya), Explanation of Fish: Kun means fish roe. Commentary: All fish roe are called kun. Discourses of the States (Luyu): Do not capture kun and small fish. Categorized Compilation (Leipian): Sometimes also written as a variant form (guan).
Also, Jade Chapter (Yupian): A large fish. Book of Master Lie (Liezi), Questions of Tang (Tangwen): There is a fish there; its width is several thousand li, and its length is commensurate; its name is Kun. Book of Master Zhuang (Zhuangzi), Free and Easy Wandering (Xiaoyaoyou): In the Northern Ocean there is a fish, and its name is Kun. Lu Deming, Sounds and Meanings (Yinyi): Cui Zhuan says: Kun should be whale.
