Wu Collection, Middle Volume Radical: Eye (mù) Entry: 矙 Kangxi Stroke Count: 25 Page 821, Entry 14 According to the Compilation of Rhymes (Jiyun) and the Meeting of Rhymes (Yunhui), the pronunciation is kan (falling tone). It means to look. It also refers to peeping or spying. As stated in the Mencius (Mengzi): Yang Huo peeped to see that Confucius was not at home, and thereupon presented a steamed piglet to him. The commentary notes that it is pronounced kan (falling tone). The Compilation of Rhymes (Jiyun) treats this as identical to the character meaning to look down from a height. It is also interchangeable with the variant forms jian (falling tone) and jian (first tone).
