Shuowen Jiezi (Explanation of Simple and Compound Characters): A fruit.
Bencao (Materia Medica): Ju jiang (a pungent condiment).
Nanfang Caomu Zhuang (Plants of the Southern Regions): Ju jiang is long pepper. It grows in Panyu, small and green, and is called ju.
Annotations to the Shu Du Fu (Rhapsody on the Capital of Shu) by Zuo Si: Ju jiang grows by climbing trees. Its fruit resembles a mulberry catkin; when ripe it is strictly green, two to three inches long. It is preserved in honey and eaten.
Tongzhi (Comprehensive Treatises): Ju jiang is also called fuliu.
Also, Bencao: Junuo is another name for guiyu (devil's taro).
Youyang Zazu (Miscellaneous Morsels from Youyang): The root of the junuo is as large as a bowl. By autumn, its leaves drip dew, and seedlings sprout wherever the dew falls.
