It is a place name in the State of Wei. In Spring and Autumn Annals (Chūnqiū), Duke Zhuang, 14th year: "Lord Dan, the Marquis of Qi, the Duke of Song, the Marquis of Wei, and the Earl of Zheng met at Juan." Note: This is modern-day Juancheng in Dong Commandery. Tongya (Tōngyǎ) states: Juancheng was the ancient homeland of Zhuanxu. During the Spring and Autumn period, Duke Cheng of Wei once established his capital there. In the Han Dynasty, it was Juancheng County of Jiyin Commandery. Today, it is Puzhou in Shandong, subordinate to Dongchang Prefecture. It was also a city-state of the Zhou Dynasty. In Zuo Commentary (Zuǒzhuàn), Duke Cheng, 11th year: "King Zhou sent Liu Zi to renew the alliance at Juan and then entered." Also in Jiyun (Jíyùn), it has pronunciations such as zhūyán qie, sounding like zhān; jīyán qie, sounding like jiān; zhīrén qie, sounding like zhēn; and yújīn qie, sounding like yīn. All refer to the same meaning.
