Pronounced juan.
According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen Jiezi), it refers to leaping rapidly. In some versions of the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), it is also written in a variant form. Another interpretation is that it signifies impatience.
The Book of Mencius (Mengzi) states: "If not the sage, then perhaps the wild or the cautious (juan)."
Also pronounced xuan. According to the Basic Collection of Characters (Yupian), it is defined as leaping or impatient. According to the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), it means rapid.
